Subject: Need Engaging Copy for Our Upcoming Indie Game Launch

Hi Stelph,

I came across your profile and was really impressed by your knack for writing immersive and emotionally engaging copy—especially in the gaming and entertainment space. I’m currently working on launching an indie game with a small team, and we’re looking for a copywriter to help us craft:

  • A compelling landing page

  • Store description for Steam

  • Email campaign for early access signups

  • Social media posts leading up to launch

Our game is a narrative-driven, pixel-art RPG with a strong emotional hook and dark fantasy elements. We really want the copy to reflect that tone while sparking curiosity and excitement.

Would you be available for a quick call later this week to discuss your availability, process, and rates?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,
Marissa Lane

1. Initial Discovery / Client Call

  • Goal: Understand the client’s vision, voice, goals, and timeline.

  • What I’d Ask:

    • Who is your target audience?

    • What tone/voice are you aiming for? (Any games, books, or movies that reflect it?)

    • What sets your game apart from others?

    • Do you have a brand guide or existing copy I should review?

    • What are your main CTAs (e.g., sign up, wishlist, share)?

    • Timeline + budget confirmation.

 2. Research & Immersion

  • Play or Watch Game Footage: If there’s a demo or gameplay footage, I’ll dive into that.

  • Competitor Analysis: See how similar games present themselves on Steam, Kickstarter, Twitter/X, etc.

  • Fan Language: I’ll peek into subreddits, Discords, or comments to see how fans talk about games in this genre.

  • Tone Alignment: I’ll gather references for tone—maybe “Hades meets Darkest Dungeon” or “Studio Ghibli with a Lovecraft twist.”

 3. Outline Strategy for Each Asset

Landing Page:

  • Headline + hook

  • Brief pitch with emotion and clarity

  • Game features (bulleted or broken into story + gameplay)

  • Visual cues (what copy supports which art/screenshots)

  • CTA: email signup, wishlist, trailer view

Steam Page:

  • Short + long description

  • Tags and SEO-friendly keywords

  • Strong first 2 lines to hook scrollers

  • Quote-style lines that can be reused in trailers or screenshots

Email Campaign:

  • Sequence outline: teaser → behind-the-scenes → demo announcement → launch

  • Story-driven subject lines

  • Short, engaging copy with a call to action per email

Social Media:

  • A mix of teaser posts, character reveals, lore drops, countdowns

  • Writing in a voice that matches the game—mysterious, epic, maybe even interactive

 4. Write Drafts + Deliver in Stages

  • I’d start with the most time-sensitive item (usually the landing page or Steam copy).

  • Present 1–2 versions of key lines (like the headline) for feedback.

  • Deliver in a shareable format (Google Docs or Notion) with comments explaining thought process.

  • Make room for 1–2 revision rounds based on client input.

 5. Refine & Finalize

  • Final proofread and polish

  • Adapt tone for each platform while keeping a unified message

  • Optimize for readability and action

  • Deliver files in requested format (Markdown, Google Doc, etc.)

 6. Follow-Up & Support

  • Offer support with implementation (e.g., reviewing layout/design if they need a second pair of eyes)

  • Optionally suggest launch copy for trailers, ads, or influencer outreach

  • Ask for a testimonial once they’re happy
